After debating whether or not to go to this or the Welsh Hill Climb championships, I decided to go to the cross because not going could’ve hurt my overall points tally. It had rained a lot the week before, so the course was going to be muddy, but the sun was shining on the course through the day. The course was similar to the year before, except for one off-camber corner which for some reason I could never get right. I was gridded on the front row because of my performance the week before, and knew what I wanted to do, finish in the Top 3 and see how close to the leaders I could finish.
I managed to get myself in the front group of 3 after the start, and I knew that this was my best chance yet of keeping up with the leaders. I wasn’t as quick through the tricky off-camber corner, which meant that I was having to chase on every lap. Luckily I could, and with one lap to go I was still with the leaders. One of the riders went into the tape on the last lap, which meant that I had to put my foot down. This lost me valuable time and momentum, and meant that there was 2 of us behind the leader. Unfortunately he was a lot quicker than me, and caught the leader, while I was left on my own off the back. I finished 3rd, though I came 2nd in the U16. As I was only 13 seconds behind the leader, this was my best ever finish in a Welsh Cyclocross league.
