The first race of the season is always interesting to see whereabouts you are in the standings. I thought that the course was going to be technical, because it was at the showground, and it was. There was a big road climb at the start of the course, and there were plenty of mountain-bike style technical sections. I warmed up on the roads surrounding the course and managed to put myself on the front row of the grid, which was a free for all because nobody had raced yet.

My start was pretty good, and I was leading for about 1 second before I was overtaken. I remained for second for the first lap, but on the second I got overtaken by an U14. I was still in 2nd in the U16, and it looked like I was going to finish there. However, after putting in a big effort on the third lap, I crashed, and bent my handlebars. After the most awkward descent to the pits I had ever done in my life, I swapped for my Mountain Bike. I was overtaken, but I was in a group of 3 U16 crossing the finish line before the final lap. As I was on my MTB, I was a lot slower on the hill then I usually was, but was still in 3rd just before the finish. I finished in 3rd, which I was pleased with seeing as I crashed.
