I was supposed to race at Stourport on 3rd March, but Storm Emma had other ideas. This meant that I was relatively surprised to arrive in Rhyl and find a lovely sunny day. It didn’t last, when I was on the rollers warming up it felt like it was about to rain. I watched the U14 race while warming up, which turned out to be quite interesting as a solo rider spent most of the race on his own off the front. It allowed me to understand the headwind, which would be valuable during my race. I lined up for the start, and the start wasn’t done by a whistle, but just somebody saying Go.

The pace was quick at the start, with 3 Marsh Tracks riders setting a high tempo. I was surprised (In a good way!) to see that there were just 6 riders left in the front group after a few laps. In most circuit races I’ve done, at this point the race would slow down. However, today it didn’t. After 13 minutes, the average speed was over 40 km/h, which is by far the quickest race I’d ever done. Nobody attacked towards the end, and it became a bit chaotic on the last lap. I stood up to sprint, but had nothing left, which wasn’t too surprising. I was happy with the outcome of the race, and I’m looking forward to racing the Dolan series next weekend!
