On Saturday me and Dad headed down to Newport again for my second track race, the next round of the Icebreaker. The format was exactly the same as last time, with the heats almost identical as well. The overall target was to do better than last time, whether that was with a better result or a better race in general.

Scratch

The scratch race is definitely the least exciting to ride and watch on the track. In summary, the race starts, we ride round, there are a few attacks but it all ends up as a sprint, usually. With 6 laps to go I decided to make use of the height that I had and attacked off the front, for the first time ever. It was nice riding round with people applauding me! Unfortunately it didn’t work, the group caught me with just over a lap to go and I finished near the back, but I was glad to have tried something and got myself noticed.

Points

I prefer the points race. The sprints every 8 laps means that there is more action, as it’s like doing the final 2km of a race over and over again. There was one moment where I lost the race, a group of 4 clipped off the front and I wasn’t in a position to respond. I chased with a Welwyn Wheeler, but it was in vain, and we were caught by what was left of the peleton. I ended up finishing 12th in the final sprint and 13th overall, which was my highest ever finish in a track race, so maybe the chase wasn’t a bad idea after all !

Elimination

The race which I messed up completely last time, but I felt more confident now because I actually knew how to race an elimination. I started around halfway down the bunch and on the black line, one of the most dangerous places to be. I looked behind constantly, and as soon as there was any danger I sprinted all the way around the group and onto the front. I rode here for a few laps and these laps were simple, I sat at the front not getting eliminated. I fell back into the group and unfortunately messed it up, and finished in 10th. I was delighted with this result, I had finished inside the top half and knew that I could do it again in future.

There was no time to feel proud after the finish though, it was straight to the house where we were staying before a circuit race at Pembrey the next day. I’m not sure when my next track race will be, it will be road for the next few weeks.

  1. Hi there,

I came across your website and wanted to get in touch.

I run an animation studio that produces animated explainer videos helping companies to explain what they do, why it matters and how they’re unique in less than 2 minutes.

Here are some examples of our work:
    http://bit.ly/animationworks – pretty good right?

I wanted to reach out to hear if the idea of an animated explainer video is something you’ve ever thought about creating and could be interested in exploring further?

We have a proven production process and handle everything needed for a quality video that typically takes us 6 weeks to produce from start to finish.

First, we nail the script, design storyboards you can’t wait to see animated. Voice actors in your native language that capture your brand and animation that screams premium with sound design that brings it all together.

Our videos are made from scratch and designed to make you stand out and get results. No templates, no cookie cutter animation that tarnishes your brand.
