The first 2 West Midlands Circuit Races were cancelled due to snow, so what should have been Round 3 was now Round 1. After torrential rain in the morning, it dried out slightly before my race but the track was still wet. There were only 36 in the race, as the Tour of Scotland was on, meaning that there was a good chance for a high finish, and as I had never come in the top 10 of a West Midlands race before I was hoping for a personal best. I squeezed I my way onto the second row at the start, and prepared myself for the race ahead.
My start was good, and I was towards the front of the group after the first couple of laps. This was a good thing, as a crash on a hairpin meant the group split, and I congratulated myself on good positioning. I felt strong, and covered a few of the moves, so if there was going to be a break then I was going to force myself to be in it. The race slowed down, and the chase group got back on. I was in the top 10 on the final lap when I got bumped onto the grass. I went straight to the back of the group, and cursed my bad luck. I sprinted like mad over the next few hundred metres but the damage was down, and I could only manage 14th. I was disappointed by this, as I felt like I should have got a top 10, but my mum said that she had never seen me so aggressive in a race before, so the overall outcome is positive!
